Digital- Beauty and Chaos
With this project I was exploring defacement, I was transforming something beautiful into something abstract and chaotic, I took a Famous painting The Drunken Cobbler, and I removed the people from the foreground of the painting. I choose this painting because of the skill of the painting as well as the time period this was done in. This was painted in pre-revolutionary France, this painting was believed to point out the the inequality between the aristocracy and the working class, however the way this was done in a theatrical setting, the aristocracy viewed this as a comedy scene, the cobbler(shoe-maker) could not even put shoes on his kids. Removing the subject from the painting and leaving the background helped me explore the landscape and help show how rundown the houses that the working class were able to live in.

2D- Beauty and Chaos
With this project I was exploring defacement, I was transforming something beautiful into something abstract and chaotic, I created a drawing that resembled the original work as closely as possible. After the first drawing I put it up on a home made light table, I taped the drawing up on my entertainment center with a piece of tracing paper over it and put a flashlight behind it (had to be done at night time). I did a trace of the drawing and traced the patterns but did not shade this time, for the third variation, I did the same steps except I minimized the patterns and put in where I would make the abstractions. The fourth variation of this I did not put any of the patterns and put the abstractions in place. The shading was done with some charcoal and some graphite. The first image did not turn out the way I would of hoped but the other 3 variations I could not have hoped for anything else. With these four I liked the second image and the final image the best, the second one is realistic but not at the same time while the fourth image brings abstraction in which I enjoyed the best.

3D- Beauty and Choas
This is a clay model and a sculpture rendition of the final drawing of my 2D- Beauty and Chaos series. This process was the hardest of the three for me. I have had a lot of tries and failures in this. Originally I used stoneware clay, this version did not turn out well it was too bulky and sagged. This final version that I have done was made with oil based clay and a wire frame. With the oil based clay and the wire frame I was able to construct a model, and the oil based clay is stiffer so it was able to create the form better. After applying the clay to the wire frame, I was able to smooth and the shape the edges to get sharper points and lines. This also allowed me to better explore form, being my first time creating a wire frame. This was a learning process as well just trying to get the shape of the frame correct.
